Soprano Marina Monzó will perform the role of Die Königin der Nacht in the upcoming production of Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte” at the Bayerische Staatsoper, replacing the originally scheduled Sabine Devieilhe.
Monzó joins a cast that includes Pavol Breslik as Tamino, Olga Kulchynska as Pamina, and Günther Groissböck as Sarastro. The cast also includes Eliza Boom, Daria Proszek, Lindsay Ammann, Milan Siljanov, Sean Michael Plumb, Jasmin Delfs, Ulrich Reß, Kevin Conners, Daniel Noyola, Jurij Diez, and Markus Baumeister. Ivor Bolton conducts a production by August Everding.
“Die Zauberflöte” opens on Dec. 21, and is set to run through Dec. 30, 2021.
Monzó is a young soprano that has already appeared at such opera houses as the Teatro Real, Maggio Musicale, Welsh National Opera, Ópera de Las Palmas, Teatro di San Carlo, Fondazione Petruzzelli, Teatro Verdi di Salerno, Royal Opera House of Muscat, and Palau de Les Arts, among others.
Devieilhe is nearing the end of a run of Händel’s “Alcina” at Opéra national de Paris. The soprano will return to the stage in the role of Ophélie in Thomas’ “Hamlet” at the Opéra Comique in January and February 2022.
